Medal Of Honor Sales Blocked On AAFES Stores

The reboot of popular Medal of Honor is having its round of controversies. This time around the ability of players to play Talibans and kill American (western) soldiers.

The UK has already criticized the game. The defence secretary Dr Liam Fox said, "It's hard to believe any citizen of our country would wish to buy such a thoroughly un-British game. I would urge retailers to show their support for our armed forces and ban this tasteless product."

The US Armed forces has already taken 'action' against the game by blocking the sale of the game at its AAFES stores around the globe.

The division to call for a ban is also seen a censorship of art-forms. Many bloggers are raising questions about the conflicts.

There are many movies based around the two world wars. Should the movies like Schindler's List, The Pianist or Saving Private Ryan be treated in the same manner? How to treat the actors who played the roles of tyrant's and Nazis? How should we treat actors like George Cloony who play CIA agents in films like Syriana which exposes dirty oil politics? How do we treat actors like Ralpf Finnes who played a Nazi in The Schindler's List?

Medal Of Honor AAFESMany games and movies showcase anti-heros, killing cops and innocent citizens? Most video games showcase violence where children (players) kill citizens and cops, should there be censorship of such games as well?

Danish Defense Minister Gitte Lillelund Bech said she won't legislate on the subject and has confidence in the ability of Danish youth to discriminate between right and wrong.

Is not there a line between fiction and reality? The same kids who play violent games killing cops and innocent citizens – don't they know its just fiction?

According to Mercury News, Army Pvt. Mitchell Blackburn in Bamberg, Germany, complained to Stars and Stripes newspaper that those who banished the game "are not giving people the credit to distinguish fiction from reality. People know it is a video game. "... Just because you are playing as [the Taliban] does not mean you really want to kill Americans or coalition forces."

What do you think of AAFES' decision of censorship and blocking sale of game at its Military stores?
