UAE Lifts BlackBerry Ban!

BlackBerry maker, RIM, has reportedly reached an agreement with the UAE government over the security issues around the mobile device.

There is no official statement from RIM, but according to reports Saudi Arabia will gain access to RIM's communication server for Messenger, thus allowing them to monitor the encrypted messages. The country will be able to monitor communications to and from Saudi users.

The Star reports, "The source said RIM would share with Saudi Arabia the unique pin number and code for each BlackBerry registered there. That will allow authorities to read encrypted text sent via Messenger, an instant messaging service that’s distinct from email sent on the BlackBerry that is so popular with its prized corporate and political customers."

RIM is facing similar challenges in India. RIM and telecom executives are supposed to meet the Indian home ministry officials on Thursday to sort out issues around BlackBerry services in the country.

The UAE case may be used by other countries as a model for monitoring Blackberry communication.
