Google Hits Microsoft, Acquires DocVerse
Google and Microsoft are trying to take over each other's market shares. While Google endorses a lot of Free Software (aka Open Source), Microsoft seems to believe in hiding the code and thrive on vendor lock-in as compared to superiority of technology.
Google seems to be taking a lead here as the company is positioning itself to offer alternatives to more Microsoft solutions. The search engine giant has recently acquired DocVerse.
DocVerse is a small, nimble team of talented developers who share our vision, and they’ve enabled true collaboration right within Microsoft Office. With DocVerse, people can begin to experience some of the benefits of web-based collaboration using the traditional Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint desktop applications.
This complement's Google announcement to enable users save their files online. Consider Google Chrome OS, which will primarily put your desktop in the cloud. With these acquisition, Google will gain to power to allow users have same experience as they have on their desktop.
